Guru Chandala Dosha

Guru Chandala Dosha is the conjunction of Jupiter with Rahu, and in some schools with Ketu. Jupiter stands for wisdom, ethics, teachers and children; Rahu brings ambition and unconventional appetite. When the two combine, the tradition warns that judgement can be clouded or that beliefs and mentors may be questioned. The effect depends greatly on the sign and house involved.

Formation

The Dosha forms when Jupiter and Rahu occupy the same sign in the birth chart. It is considered strongest when the two are within a few degrees, when Jupiter is weak by sign, or when the conjunction falls in the 1st, 5th or 9th house, the houses of self, intelligence and dharma. Jupiter in its own or exalted sign is said to absorb much of the difficulty.

Typical readings

Common interpretations include unorthodox views on religion, difficulty with teachers or elders, unusual paths to education or a tendency to trust the wrong advisers. In a strong chart the same combination can produce original thinkers, reformers and people who bring new learning into traditional fields.

Timing and remedies

Results tend to surface during Jupiter or Rahu Dasha and when transiting Jupiter or Rahu crosses the natal conjunction. Traditional remedies include respect for teachers, Thursday worship of Dakshinamurthy or Vishnu, recitation of Guru mantras and charity of yellow items or books.

A Dosha is a flag, not a sentence

Classical texts mark certain combinations as Doshas because they can strain a life area. Most have cancellation rules, and their effect depends on the strength of the planets involved and the periods you run. Read a Dosha as a reason to look more closely at the chart, not as a verdict.
